Specs at a Glance
The 2025 Subaru Forester remains one of the most rewarding small SUVs for folks who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. Not only is the new Forester a more than capable off-road performer, but it also offers great everyday comfort. When shopping for a new Forester, some drivers will ultimately be choosing between the Forester Base and the Forester Premium. Let's take a look at how these two trim levels compare.
Performance
These popular Forester trim levels offer the same satisfying level of performance. They both come equipped with a 2.5-liter, Boxer four-cylinder engine. It cranks out a healthy 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. A Lineartronic continuously variable automatic transmission sends power to the wheels. Like the Forester Base, the Forester Premium benefits from Subaru's full-time Symmetrical AWD system.
While the Forester Base can handle an off-road excursion, the Forester Premium comes equipped with some rugged upgrades. Subaru's X-Mode feature further enhances traction by keeping the transmission in lower gear when climbing steep grades and driving on more challenging trails. Hill descent control is also found on the Premium trim.
Appearance
This SUV returns for 2025 with an updated exterior. Like the rest of the lineup, the Forester Base flaunts an all-new front fascia. A bold grille and modern LED headlights help create an eye-catching look. Stylish 17-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires also come standard.
When checking out the Forester Premium, you'll notice some key differences. In contrast to the Base trim, it receives LED fog lights. Dark gray-finish side mirrors further distinguish the Premium trim. Subaru also offers the Premium trim in additional exterior colors, including Autumn Green Metallic and River Rock Pearl.
Features
Several great features come standard on the Forester Base. Subaru's Starlink Multimedia system remains a big highlight. It provides dual 7.0-inch display screens with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Meanwhile, Subaru's EyeSight driver-assistance technologies help ensure a safe drive. Other standard equipment includes Advanced Adaptive Cruise Control, dual-zone automatic climate control, and integrated steering wheel controls.
A 10-way power driver's seat and reclining rear seatbacks help elevate the Forester Premium's comfort. Another big upgrade is the Premium trim's larger 11.6-inch touchscreen, which includes wireless smartphone integration. Keyless access with push-button start, a six-speaker audio system, and a built-in 4G Wi-Fi hotspot are also equipped in the Premium trim.
