Subaru is proud to announce that the 2025 Subaru Forester, one of the company's flagship vehicles, has earned the honor of an IIHS Top Safety Pick. The 2025 Forester earned an award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for its leading safety technology.
The honor is especially notable for both Subaru and the Forester, as the IIHS updated its vehicle safety requirements in 2024. The IIHS now has more stringent safety requirements for side impact protection, moderate front overlap, and pedestrian crash avoidance tests. The Subaru Forester received a “good” crash test rating for the new pedestrian crash prevention test, and it also met the IIHS's requirements in the other safety categories. Ultimately, the 2025 Forester received the highest “Top Safety Pick+” rating from the IIHS for its crash prevention technology and accident mitigation technology. While the 2025 safety award is the latest that the Subaru Forester has won, the classic Subaru SUV has also earned an IIHS Top Safety Award 18 times since 2007, which is more safety award compared to any other small SUV.
In a statement, Subaru of America, Inc.'s President and Chief Operating Officer, Jeff Walters, notes that the 2025 Forester continues to uphold and further Subaru's dedication to producing cars with the highest and most advanced safety standards on the road. Walters adds that, while impressive, the Forester's latest safety award also continues a trend that customers expect from Subaru. As a whole, Subaru is also recognized worldwide as a leader in vehicle safety. The global automaker has earned more IIHS Top Safety Pick+ honors than any other automaker since 2013.
IIHS Safety Test Ratings
The IIHS has specific criteria when evaluating a vehicle's safety profile. To earn an IIHS safety award, cars must earn a rating of “Good” for side crash tests and front overlap tests. They must also receive a rating of “Acceptable” or “Good” in pedestrian crash avoidance tests. For any model, all trim levels must also have headlights that pass the IIHS test with an “Acceptable” or “Good” rating. The car must also earn an IIHS safety rating of “Good” or “Acceptable” for moderate-level front-end crashes.
