2023 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2023 Subaru Outback

Customers looking for a versatile compact or mid-size SUV with diverse styling will find it in the 2023 Crosstrek (compact) and Outback (mid-size). We all know the exclusiveness of Subaru's BOXER engines and their award-winning EyeSight driver-assist systems. Both of these models are maximized in the Subaru way of life. They hug curves, confidently traverse through rough terrain, and still come out fresh enough to take a long road trip with the whole family.

Performance

A 2023 Subaru Crosstrek has a base 2.0L DOHC engine rated at 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque. The Outback's 2.5L DOHC base engine is rated at 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Crosstrek later trims get a 2.5L DOHC engine and are rated at 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. Hybrid options are available. The Outback's performance is maxed out with its 2.4L DOHC engine rated at 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Outback models are mid-sized and strong enough to deliver up to 3,500 pounds of towing capacity compared to the Crosstrek's 1,500 pounds of max towing capacity.

Appearance

Handsome is a word that can be applied to both the Crosstrek and Outback. The Crosstrek is smaller and sits lower with a more angled stature, and the Outback also has a lower stance, but it is less angled and exhibits a powerful front end that doesn't taper. If you like a long SUV, the Outback is 191.9 inches long compared to the 176.5-inch Crosstrek. Both models are available with 18-inch wheels with black and machine finish.

Features

The interior of the Crosstrek and Outback both offer lovely leather-wrapped steering wheels and a menu of premium upholstery. For example, the colorful Crosstrek offers leather-trimmed upholstery with orange or blue contrast stitching. The Outback is the only one that has available Nappa leather-trimmed seats. Interior touchscreen displays differ between the two models. The Outback's 11.6-inch Multimedia display runs on STARLINK. The Crosstrek also gets a STARLINK system, but it's an 8-inch design. No matter which SUV you choose, a Harman Kardon premium audio system is available. However, this feature comes standard on the Outback on two models (Limited and Onyx Edition). It's an option on the Crosstrek's Limited and Hybrid trims.
