2024 Subaru Crosstrek vs 2024 Subaru Outback
Subaru's lineup of family wagons always gives Americans a choice about what kind of personality they want their SUV to have. Thanks to the symmetrical all-wheel drive and Subaru's award-winning Driver EyeSight technology, both the Crosstrek and Outback have a sterling reputation with American buyers. The theme of both models in 2024 is exploration. Get more out of the world around you with either of these SUVs.
Performance
The Crosstrek is a compact SUV, and the Outback is a mid-size SUV, so there are some distinct performance differences between these two. A Subaru Crosstrek comes with a 2.5L Subaru BOXER engine rated at 182 horsepower. The Outback also starts out with 182-horsepower performance, but there's another powertrain option for the Outback. You can pick up a 260-horsepower Subaru BOXER engine for the Outback. This engine isn't available on the Crosstrek.
Appearance
Some people would call the Outback the more "wagon" of the two models. It has a shorter stance and a longer, more tapered front end. The 2024 Crosstrek is 176.4 inches long and has a 105.1-inch wheelbase. An Outback is 191.9 inches long with a 108.1-inch wheelbase. That makes for two very different looks. LED steering responsive headlamps are standard on both models, but the Outback also gets LED fog lamps standard even on its base model.
Features
There are big differences in the interior space and amenities of both the Crosstrek and Outback. For example, the Crosstrek has 100.5 cubic feet of passenger volume, and the Outback offers 109 cubic feet of cargo volume. Sometimes, the deciding factor between these two is simply how much space a family needs. Three trims of the Crosstrek offer a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter handle, but the Outback has five trims that offer this feature. Both begin with standard cloth upholstery and offer leather-trimmed upholstery choices, but only the Outback comes with available Nappa leather-trimmed seats. The Touring model offers this type of seating as standard. There's good news for Subaru buyers this year. Both the Crosstrek and Outback offer standard Driver EyeSight technologies. It's obvious that Subaru puts a premium on safety no matter what kind of SUV they're designing for American families.
