Specs at a Glance
The 2024 Subaru Outback is built for adventure. This midsize SUV’s legendary capability makes it a perfect match for outdoor enthusiasts. Great passenger room and standard EyeSight driver-assist safety technologies certify the Outback as a great family vehicle. Let’s look at how the Base trim compares to the Wilderness trim.
Performance
Under the hood of the Outback Base sits a naturally aspirated Subaru Boxer four-cylinder engine. It’s rated to develop a competitive 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. A Lineartronic continuously variable transmission helps optimize fuel efficiency. Like the rest of the lineup, the base model has a full-time Symmetrical AWD system. Engaging the SUV’s X-Mode feature will further enhance traction and stability when approaching more challenging terrain.
The Wilderness trim delivers a more muscular performance. Its turbocharged Subaru Boxer four-cylinder engine develops 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. Aside from enabling you to experience quicker acceleration, this extra brawn also raises the Outback’s towing capacity to 3,500 pounds. Rugged upgrades make the Outback Wilderness an even better choice for more serious off-roaders. Aside from boasting 9.5 inches of ground clearance, it also receives a front skid plate and all-terrain tires. A dual-function X-MODE system with additional driving models also comes standard.
Appearance
The Outback Base has an attractive appearance. Rugged fender flares and raised roof rails make it look ready for adventure. A set of 17-inch machine-finished wheels also enhances the SUV’s curb appeal. When driving at night, you’ll appreciate the base model’s standard LED Steering Responsive Headlights.
Expect the Outback Wilderness to have an even more rugged look. Its reinforced roof rails feature Anodized Copper accents. Exclusive 17-inch black alloy wheels with all-terrain tires further differentiate the Wilderness trim. An anti-glare decal is found on the hood.
Features
Although the Outback Base may be the lineup’s most affordable trim, it does not force you to sacrifice today’s most popular features. Subaru’s Starlink Multimedia system features dual 7.0-inch touchscreens with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration. Other highlights include automatic climate control, a Rear Vision camera, and keyless entry.
More upgrades are found on the Wilderness trim. StarTex water-repellent upholstery lines its interior. Technology lovers will enjoy this trim’s upgraded 11.6-inch touchscreen. New for 2024 is the Wilderness trim’s Harman Kardon premium audio system.
