Specs at a Glance

If you're in the market for a compact vehicle, Subaru gives you some great options to choose from. Both the 2026 Subaru Impreza and the 2026 Subaru Crosstrek are highly recommended. While the Impreza is a practical yet fun-to-drive hatchback, the Crosstrek is a versatile SUV. Let's take a closer look at how these two models compare.

Performance

The Impreza comes standard with a 2.0-liter, Boxer four-cylinder engine. It develops 152 horsepower and 145 lb-ft of torque, which is perfect for everyday commuting. Subaru equips the RS trim with an even more powerful 2.5-liter Boxer four-cylinder engine. Output increases to 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. Both of the available powertrains feature a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission. Symmetrical all-wheel drive is also standard across the Impreza lineup.

The Impreza's available 2.5-liter, Boxer four-cylinder engine now comes standard on the Crosstrek. It's tuned to produce 182 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. A Lineartronic continuously variable transmission feeds power to Subaru's Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system.

The Impreza and the Crosstrek actually feature the same underpinnings. However, a lower ride height enables the Impreza to offer sharper handling. Meanwhile, Subaru designed the Crosstrek to be more rugged. A raised suspension with 8.7 inches of ground clearance and an adventurous X-Mode feature enable the Crosstrek to venture off-road confidently. Drivers can also take advantage of the Crosstrek's 1,500-pound towing capacity.

Appearance

Many drivers love the Impreza's sporty exterior styling. Even the entry-level Impreza Sport will turn heads. Racy exterior treatments, such as black-finished alloy wheels and a roof spoiler, give the Impreza RS an especially aggressive look. There are plenty of eye-catching paint color options available, including Citron Yellow Pearl.

There's no denying the Crosstrek's rugged persona. The SUV's protective cladding on its fenders makes it look ready to explore the great outdoors. All-terrain tires come standard on the especially capable Crosstrek Wilderness.

Features

Regardless of which vehicle you prefer, you'll be surrounded by modern features. Both vehicles come standard with Subaru's user-friendly STARLINK multimedia system. EyeSight Driver Assist Technology is also standard, providing advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking and lane-keeping support. Some of the available upgrades include blind-spot detection, a wireless device charger, and heated front seats.
