You heard it here first, folks. Subaru is a benchmark setter and once again proves its ability to stay ahead of the curve by bringing a built-in 4G LTE Internet connection to its lineup for the 2016 model year. The connection will be provided via STARLINK, which also gets other exciting updates and we’ve got the details here.

The new system will be available on the 2016 Subaru Forester, which sources say is due to arrive at the end of the year with significant updates of its own. Along with 4G LTE, STARLINK will come with several new safety and security enhancements, including:

Enhanced Roadside Assistance
A blue overhead button allows drivers to contact roadside service with a simple click. For example, anytime you need a tow or have run out of fuel on the freeway, click the button and roadside assistance will head over to help. Driver location is calculated using the vehicle’s GPS system.

Auto Collision Notification
When an airbag deploys, a STARLINK advisor is alerted and attempts to contact the driver through the dashboard interface. If a connection with the driver cannot be made, the advisor immediately contacts the appropriate emergency services and sends them to the vehicle’s location.

SOS Emergency Assistant
For non-collision related events, like medical and other emergencies, there’s a red overhead SOS button that drivers can tap to contact a STARLINK advisor. The service works anywhere in the continental United States - and Canada if you like to travel up north).

In addition, STARLINK offers in-dash access to podcasts, data services and apps like Aha; displays and reads text messages aloud; runs vehicle diagnostic reports and emails warnings; and provides stolen vehicle recover service.

Furthermore, you can use your smartphone or home computer to control several vehicle functions remotely, like the door locks, horn and lights, and if you can’t remember where you parked you can use the remote vehicle locator to view an aerial map of your vehicle’s exact location.
