Subaru is one of the most popular automakers in the world, and it stands out for its vehicles that are sporty, reliable, budget-friendly, and adventurous. While Subaru is best known for its cars, the automaker is also involved in fighting cancer. For years, Subaru has partnered with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to support cancer research, connect with cancer patients and their families, and provide hope to those battling the disease. This year, Subaru proudly announces a 10-year milestone in its partnership with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Subaru and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) Partnership
Subaru partners with the LLS through an initiative called “Subaru Loves to Care.”
Through this partnership, Subaru assists nearly 500,000 blood cancer patients across the U.S. Subaru is also the largest donor to LLS among all automakers, which makes it a very important partner to LLS. The partnership between Subaru and LLS focuses primarily on assisting children who are battling blood cancer, and in turn, it supports their families, too. Alan Bethke, Senior V.P. of Marketing at Subaru of America, Inc., notes that for the past decade, Subaru’s partnership with LLS has highlighted the importance of a personal touch for those dealing with blood cancer. He adds that Subaru’s goal is to deliver “warmth, love, and comfort during some of life’s most difficult moments.” Subaru accomplishes that goal by delivering handwritten notes and blankets to child cancer patients in hospitals around the country. Subaru works with over 600 participating retailers nationwide to support cancer patients through its care kits. Additionally, Subaru offers financial assistance to child cancer patients and their families for non-medical expenses such as groceries and transportation.
The LLS is just as appreciative of the 10-year partnership that it has had with Subaru. E. Anders Kolb, M.D., who is also President and CEO of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, notes that the blankets and notes delivered by Subaru to cancer patients offer “real comfort, love, and encouragement” for those undergoing therapy, especially children. Kolb adds that together, Subaru and LLS have touched many lives over the years of their partnership, and they have reminded cancer patients that they are not fighting a battle alone.
