What's New for the 2019 Subaru WRX?

Formerly the high-performance variant of Subaru compact sedan, the Impreza, the WRX eventually became a standalone vehicle starting in the 2015 model year. The 2019 Subaru WRX is part of the nameplate's third generation of production. For this model year, the upper-level engine is bumped up a little in horsepower, and the infotainment is slightly refreshed.

2019 Brings Updated Interior Features and Trims

The 2019 Subaru WRX is available as a base-level model, Premium, Limited, STI, and STI Limited. Regardless of trim, this sporty compact sedan seats up to five people, with 96.6 cubic feet of passenger volume and 12 cubic feet of standard cargo volume. At the Premium trim level, Subaru introduces front-seat heating. The Limited trim and higher have leather seat surfaces, with the Limited being the only model with a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The STI trim level range (i.e., STI and STI Limited) get Ultrasuede® leather seat surfaces, with the STI Limited further standing out with its 8-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and Recaro® front bucket seats with red contrast stitching.

For comfort and convenience, the 2019 WRX includes features such as electronic cruise control, connectivity for audio streaming and hands-free phone operation, six-speaker audio, AM/FM radio, a CD player, HD Radio™ technology, a four-month subscription to SiriusXM® satellite radio, a USB port and an auxiliary audio jack for hooking up portable media devices, and STARLINK™ infotainment integration anchored by a 6.5-inch LCD touchscreen.

At the Premium trim level, the WRX is enhanced with dual USB ports for charging portable media devices, Siri® Eyes Free, and a 7-inch LCD touchscreen in place of the 6.5-inch. Both STI trims get an upgrade to dual-zone automatic climate control, a nine-speaker 440-watt Harman Kardon® audio system, and 7-inch touchscreen navigation. Notably, the Premium, Limited, and STI Limited trims have a tilt-and-slide moonroof, and only the Limited and STI Limited come with keyless access and push-button engine start.

2019 Subaru WRX Horsepower and Drivetrain Performance

2019 Subaru WRXThe 2.5-liter turbocharged flat-4-cylinder (H4) engine exclusive to the STI trims now produces 310 horsepower instead of 305, in addition to 290 lb-ft of torque. The other trims go with a 2.0-liter turbocharged H4 engine with 268 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are hitched to 6-speed manual transmissions, and all-wheel drive is standard on all trims. Peak fuel economy is measured at 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway (with the 2.0-liter turbo H4).
