Pangea was born in the desert, so it only makes sense that the renowned orchestra would return to the Phoenix area for a free concert. Last year, the group played one of the most well received shows that Tempe History Museum has ever seen, and they are excited to return for another special engagement on Friday, Aug. 22, 2014, at 7 p.m. This free summer concert is an extra special one, bringing many of the original members of the Pangean movement back together for a one-night-only performance that's sure to be unforgettable.
Using the universal language of music, the group aims to promote a message of peace, which is reflected in the fact that the orchestra features musicians and instruments from all over the world who work together to create complex and beautiful arrangements. Led by conductor Colin O'Donohoe, the Pangean Orchestra uses a wide range of unique instruments from many different corners of the world, including the cajun djembe, tombek, veenai, kaval, santour, qanun, ubu and davul, as well instruments like the French horn, pedal steel guitar and woodwinds.
If you're a fan of world music, you won't want to miss this free event, so remember to mark your calendars and save the date. While there is no charge for admission, donations will be accepted.
