When the 2016 Impreza arrives a couple of years from now, it will be the first vehicle in the Subaru lineup to feature the brand's all-new modular platform. And eventually, this platform will underpin every Subaru model, from the Impreza to the BRZ. In addition, Subaru has plans to introduce the next generation of its engine technology, which will include direct injection, cylinder deactivation and lean-burn technology, according to Automotive News.
Subaru has also stated that it will likely use its new global platform and engine technology in an all-new seven-seat crossover, which could debut within the next few years. The company even expects to manufacturer its first plug-in hybrid by 2018, so there are lots of big changes ahead for customers to look forward to.
While details have not been released regarding how the new platform will affect the layout of Subaru's vehicles, the automaker has laid out a schedule of projected product updates for several of its vehicle models. Though we're sure this is subject to change, here's what they've stated so far:
- BRZ - refresh for 2016 model year, full redesign for 2018
- Impreza - full redesign for 2016
- Legacy - redesigned 2015 Legacy just arrived, freshening expected for 2017 model
