What's New For the 2020 Subaru Forester?

The 2020 model year finds the Subaru Forester still fresh in its fifth generation of production. Still, Subaru has not eased up on its compact crossover SUV: beefing up the vehicle's list of standard driving-assistance functions a little, as well as extending providing an off-road-oriented package to more of its trims.

2020 Subaru Forester Interior

2020 Forester is Impressive No Matter Which Trim You Choose

The 2020 Subaru Forester is split into base-level, Premium, Sport, Limited, and Touring trims. In the cabin are two rows of cloth-covered seats to accommodate up to five people. Front seating consists of a 6-way manually adjustable driver's seat and a 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat, and the rear has a 60/40-split flat-folding bench-style seat to expand cargo space. At the Premium trim level, there's a leather-wrapped steering wheel, front-seat heating, and 10-way power adjustability with power lumbar support on the driver's seat.

True to its name, the Sport is the only trim with racing-style upholstery with orange stitching. The Limited trim level is where the crossover is enhanced with leather seat trim. And exclusive to the Touring are rear-seat and steering-wheel heating, 10-way power extended to the front passenger seat, a driver-seat memory system, and one-touch folding ability on the rear seats. At the base level, the 2020 Forester has amenities such as automatic climate control, a monochromatic multifunction display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone integration, four-speaker audio, Bluetooth wireless technology, four-month subscriptions to SiriusXM Radio and SiriusXM Travel Link, AM/FM radio, a single-disc CD player, dual front-row USB ports, and STARLINK infotainment integration with a 6.5-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen.

Added on the Premium are a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot and two additional speakers for a six-speaker setup. The Sport gets a multifunctional color display instead of the monochromatic one, keyless access with push-button engine start, and a pair of second-row USB ports. The Limited is enhanced with dual-zone automatic climate control, HD Radio, an audio jack, and an 8-inch touchscreen. And the Touring is the only trim with 8-inch touchscreen navigation and a nine-speaker 576-watt Harman Kardon system.

How Well does the 2020 Subaru Forester Perform?

2020 Subaru ForesterUnder the hood of the 2020 Subaru Forester is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder boxer engine that produces 182 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. The engine, which has an auto start-stop system, is pinned to a continuously variable transmission, with paddle shifters added on the Sport and Touring trims. Like other Subaru vehicles, the Forester has a standard all-wheel-drive for enhanced all-weather driving.

2020 Forester has an Abundance of Safety Features

2020 Subaru ForesterStandard safety features on the 2020 Forester include seven airbags, vehicle dynamics control, trailer stability assist, traction control, four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes, brake assist and override, active torque vectoring, electronic brake-force distribution, daytime running lights, an anti-theft system, and the EyeSight suite of driving-assistance technologies (which includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, lane departure and sway warning, and a pre-collision braking system).
