What's New for the 2021 Subaru Outback?

Subaru has a highly successful formula in the Outback, which features the brand's signature AWD system and 8.7 inches of ground clearance to provide excellent off-road capabilities. This rugged vehicle has some exciting updates for 2021, such as a rear-seat reminder system and adaptive headlamps. With seven trim levels offered in the 2021 model year, you have ample opportunity to find an Outback that is an excellent fit for your wants and needs. All trims include symmetrical all-wheel drive, hill descent control, STARLINK Multimedia, and LED steering responsive headlights. The base trim includes advanced adaptive cruise control, paddle shifters, automatic climate control, dual front USB charging ports, and a 7-inch split multimedia screen. The Premium trim and up adds dual-zone climate control, front and rear windshield wiper de-icers, power-adjustable front seats, an 11.6-inch screen, and Wi-Fi capability.

The Limited comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, leather-trimmed upholstery, keyless access with push-button start, hands-free power rear gate, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system. The Touring trim adds an 11.6-inch multimedia navigation touchscreen and ventilated front seats. The Onyx Edition XT gets black finish 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels and six speakers with its audio system. You'll get a power tilt/sliding glass moonroof with the Limited XT and folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals. The top-line trim, Touring XT, includes Nappa leather-trimmed upholstery and satin chrome-finish power-folding side mirrors with integrated turn signals.

What's Under the Hood of the Outback?

The Outback is available with two powertrains across its 2021 line. The first four trim levels have a Boxer 2.5-liter engine that generates 182 horsepower. The turbocharged Boxer 2.4-liter engine that delivers 260 horsepower is in the top three trim levels. This year, all Outback trims come with a Lineartronic continuously variable transmission, hill descent control, X-Mode, symmetrical all-wheel drive, and other standard equipment.

Technologies to Keep You Safe

Subaru's EyeSight assistive technologies are standard across the board for the 2021 Outback's trims. These include lane keep assist, lane centering, adaptive cruise control, and other gear. Higher-level trims add extra technologies like reverse auto braking, rear cross-traffic alert, distracted driver alert, blind-spot monitoring, and a few additional features.
