When an independent testing organization compared several unmodified, all-wheel-drive SUVs in a difficult traction test, there was only one vehicle that completed the challenge. As a matter of fact, you'll definitely want to see just how badly some of the models in this test performed, especially if you're in the market for an SUV with all-wheel drive.

In the video above, America's top five compact AWD crossovers are put through a ramp test by the United States Auto Club. SUVs included the Subaru Forester, Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Toyota RAV4 and Honda CR-V, and all were factory-spec models.

The USAC built a ramp that simulated an extreme driving condition, one in which traction would be an issue, and then each SUV was put through a traction test. The Honda CR-V really struggled to grip the ramp at all, while others were left with their tires spinning and achieved little forward movement.

In the end, all of the SUVs failed except the Forester, which was able to successfully ascend and descend the ramp thanks to advanced standard features like Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Traction Control. This was no surprise to us and maybe not to you either, as there are countless stories about ordinary citizens having to use their Subarus to tow other vehicles up hills when roads are extremely slippery. Still, seeing it in action really makes it clear that Subaru's all-wheel-drive system leads the pack. It also emphasizes the brand's commitment to building vehicles that worry about safety, so that you don't have to.
