If you want an SUV that looks sophisticated on city streets, but kills it when the going gets tough off road, look no further than Subaru. You don't have to drive a gas-guzzling heavy-duty truck or large utility vehicle to get capable all-terrain performance. In fact, according to a J.D. Power study, Subaru is the third most selected brand for off-roading and the Outback, specifically, is taken off pavement more than any of its competitors.

Living in Arizona, many of the models in Subaru's lineup lend themselves well to folks who live in out-of-the-way areas, as well as those who enjoy traveling up north for camping. Overall, nearly 29.5 percent of Subaru vehicles nationwide are regularly used on dirt roads and rocky trails, a percentage only surpassed by Ram and Jeep, which rate in at 30.2 percent and 31 percent, respectively. However, as mentioned above, the Subaru Outback is used more than any competing vehicle for off-roading. Some 34.7 percent of Outbacks are taken on rough, muddy and/or gravelly paths, and this is trailed by one of Outback's main rivals, the Jeep Grand Cherokee, only 21.1 percent of which are used off road. Other models that trail the Outback when it comes to off-road use include: Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, Volvo XC70 and Audi Allroad.

For the outdoorsy type, purchasing a Subaru is a no-brainer. With rugged yet efficient performance, signature looks, a superior selection of tech features and standard all-wheel drive that offers unbeatable traction in the toughest conditions, Subaru stands out as a top choice for vehicle shoppers who love adventure!
