If you miss having a seven-passenger SUV option in the Subaru lineup, get ready to jump for joy because there are plans to develop an all-new sport utility vehicle with room for up to seven. Subaru execs say it could be based on the Outback or have a distinct style all its own.

Following the departure of Tribeca, the company has been discussing a new vehicle entry that it hopes will make a splash in one of the auto industry’s most popular categories - the three-row crossover. Autonews.com says Subaru is debating whether the new utility vehicle should be a big brother to the Subaru Outback or if it should take on a distinct look of its own, which was the automaker’s strategy with the Subaru Forester. Outback is a top seller however, so some think it would make the most sense to pull from its rugged looks, throw in a few extra seats and bulk up its size, rather than start from scratch with a new design.

Whatever the final decision may be, the new SUV will be built at Subaru’s factory in Indiana and is expected to hit the market in the 2018 model year. The new SUV will compete against models like the Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot. Along with its stylish Subaru looks, shoppers can already expect that it’ll be distinguished from these competitors by its efficient BOXER engine and advanced Symmetrical All-Wheel-Drive system.

We can’t wait to see what Subaru decides to do with its next three-row crossover and will provide details to all of you as soon as more news arrives.
